Measures to Control Weeds Emerging in Early Spring

view 191

During early spring, as the soil temperature begins to rise, many weeds start to germinate rapidly. These weeds grow together with agricultural crops and compete for nutrients, moisture, and sunlight in the soil. As a result, crop growth slows down and yields decrease. Therefore, timely and effective control of weeds in early spring is considered one of the important agrotechnical measures.
Weeds that emerge in early spring include plants such as lamb's quarters, black nightshade, camelthorn, licorice, couch grass, and purslane. These weeds develop quickly and can occupy crop fields in a short period of time. When controlling weeds, it is first recommended to use agrotechnical methods. For this purpose, autumn plowing should be carried out properly, plant residues remaining in the field should be removed, and the soil should be loosened at the beginning of spring. Early spring soil cultivation helps reduce the germination of weed seeds. The second important method is mechanical control. Regular inter-row cultivation and hoeing in crop fields limit the development of weeds. Removing young weeds together with their roots is considered especially effective. Chemical control methods are also widely used. In this case, weeds can be eliminated through the use of herbicide preparations. When applying herbicides, it is necessary to strictly follow the recommended dosage, application timing, and compatibility with the crop type.
