Spring-Planted Melon and Squash Crops

view 138

Spring-planted melon and squash crops are heat-loving and are sown once the soil temperature reaches 10–15°C. They grow quickly in spring and produce fruit in the summer. These crops use soil nutrients rapidly, so proper soil preparation and an efficient irrigation system are essential before planting. The main spring melon and squash crops are watermelon, melon, pumpkin, and, in some regions, squash. Watermelon produces sweet and tender fruits and is suitable for irrigated areas. Melon thrives in warm, sunny locations, and soil fertility plays an important role. Pumpkin grows quickly and yields abundantly, while squash is planted in some regions in spring and is an important horticultural crop. In Uzbekistan, the sowing period varies by region: in southern regions, it is from late March to early April; in central regions, mid-April; and in northern regions, late April to early May. When planting spring melon and squash crops, the soil temperature should be at least 12–14°C, the soil should be light and fertile, sunlight should be sufficient, and irrigation norms must be followed. Timely planting and proper care ensure high yields, quality fruits, and help maintain soil fertility.
