Medicinal value: Due to essential oils and biologically active compounds, this plant has beneficial effects on the body. It is mainly used for colds, improving digestion, and strengthening overall health.
Scientific name: Origanum tyttanthum (Latin name), Origanum tyttanthum Gontsch. In folk language, it is known as mountain oregano or small-flowered oregano. Turkic peoples also call it “Kekik.”
Raw material: The aerial part (herba) — stems, leaves, and flowers. It is mainly harvested during the flowering period (the optimal time).
Healing properties:
For colds and cough — helps expel phlegm and soothes the throat;
Antiseptic — has antimicrobial effects;
Improves digestion — stimulates appetite and eases digestion;
Calming effect — reduces mild stress and anxiety.
How is it used?
As an infusion (herbal tea) — for colds, cough, and digestion;
Inhalation — steam helps relieve throat irritation and cough;
As an antiseptic — sometimes used against inflammation and microbes;
As a spice — enhances the flavor of dishes (soups, pizza, meat, etc.) and supports digestion.
Note:
Pregnancy and lactation — strong infusions or concentrated forms may be unsafe;
Allergy — should not be used by those allergic to oregano, basil, or mint;
Heart, kidney, and liver diseases — use only after consulting a doctor;
With medications — especially blood-thinning or strong drugs, use only under medical supervision.
