Biochar is a carbon-rich, porous material produced by heating plant residues, wood, straw, and other organic biomass at high temperatures under oxygen-limited conditions. In agriculture, it can be used to improve soil quality and transform organic waste into a valuable resource. During the event, young scientists, researchers, and PhD students received detailed information about biochar, including its production technology and potential applications in agriculture. In particular, the importance of biochar for improving soil fertility, enhancing soil physical properties, retaining moisture, helping soils retain nutrients, and increasing organic matter content was highlighted. Participants also exchanged views on the potential for reducing waste by converting organic residues into biochar, making more efficient use of biomass resources, and promoting environmentally sustainable agriculture.
