Licorice is not called a “miraculous plant” without reason. Not only are more than 110 types of medicines produced from it, but it is also used in 20 different sectors of industry.
In our country, the species known as smooth licorice is widespread and grows naturally. Licorice is a perennial, rhizomatous weed belonging to the legume family. Its stem is branched, coarse, and erect, growing to a height of 40–150 cm.
Beneficial properties of licorice: it is recommended for colds; tuberculosis; lung, liver, respiratory tract, and cardiovascular diseases; skin burns; diphtheria; oncological diseases; food poisoning; as well as stomach and duodenal ulcers.
Licorice is also used in agriculture. If just 1 milligram of its active substance is mixed with 1 liter of water and applied to potatoes, the sprouting rate of the buds increases by 28 percent.
