TSAU scientists are conducting research on sustainable soil management in Karakalpakstan

view 19

Scientific and practical research is ongoing in the Republic of Uzbekistan (Karakalpakstan) under the project "Capacity Building in Sustainable Soil Management in the Global South," implemented by the Department of Agrochemistry and Soil Science of Tashkent State Agrarian University within the framework of the FAO–China Cooperation Program. Experimental trials are being conducted at the experimental fields of the Karakalpak Research Institute of Agriculture in Chimbay District. The main goal of the research is to preserve soil fertility taking into account the soil and climatic conditions of the region, study salinity and degradation processes, and improve sustainable agricultural practices. Within the project framework, 15 types of promising winter crops have been planted on the experimental plots. Among them are crops such as winter rapeseed, camelina (rishik), safflower, winter mustard, oats, forage peas, winter wheat, winter barley, triticale, and rye. During the research, the salt tolerance, growth and development, and biomass accumulation characteristics of the crops are being studied. In addition, special attention is paid to assessing the degree of salinity and the ameliorative condition of the soil through laboratory analysis of soil samples. This project aims to strengthen international scientific cooperation, adapt advanced practices to the conditions of Uzbekistan, and ensure agricultural sustainability through the conservation of soil resources.
