«Early carrot» Cultivation Technology

view 28

Carrots are grown on light-textured, fertile soils with a neutral pH of 5.5–7. The best preceding crops are cucumber, onion, tomato, early potato, and cabbage. Proper field selection is an important factor in obtaining high yields. Before sowing, seeds are sorted and their germination rate is tested. It is not recommended to use seeds stored for more than two years. To increase productivity, seeds can be treated with microelements. In southern regions, carrots are sown in late February to early March; in central regions, in early March; and in northern regions, in mid-March. The sowing depth is 1.5–2 cm, and the seed rate is 5–6 kg per hectare. Seedlings begin to emerge in 5–7 days. During the growing season, thinning and weeding are carried out twice. Soil moisture should be maintained at 70–75%, and depending on conditions, irrigation is recommended 5–8 times during the growing period. To obtain a yield of 25–30 tons per hectare, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizers are applied according to soil type and recommended rates. Timely pest and disease control measures ensure a high and quality harvest.
