Growing Annual Seedlings Planted in Spring

view 19

Spring is the most favorable season for planting annual vegetable and flower seedlings. To obtain a high and quality yield, it is first necessary to choose the right land area. The site should receive plenty of sunlight, be protected from strong winds, and have fertile soil. If the soil is рыхкий (loose) and well-drained, seedlings will root quickly and develop healthily. Before planting, the soil should be dug to a depth of 25–30 cm, and 4–6 kg of well-rotted manure or compost should be applied per square meter. Proper use of mineral fertilizers increases productivity. In spring, crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, eggplants, pumpkins, watermelons, and melons, as well as various ornamental flowers, are usually planted. Since these plants are heat-loving, planting begins when the soil temperature reaches at least +10–12°C. Seedlings are transplanted into open fields only after the risk of frost has completely passed. It is important to maintain proper spacing between plants during planting. This improves their nutrition, air circulation, and resistance to diseases. After planting, seedlings should be watered immediately, and consistent moisture must be maintained until they establish roots. During the growing season, soil loosening, weed control, and additional fertilization should be carried out regularly. Timely measures against pests and diseases ensure a rich harvest.
