At the university’s training and experimental farm, researchers M.Z. Fakhriddinov, S.T. Juraev, A.A. Khurramov, and S.T. Mansurov created the new mandarin variety “Mediana.” From now on, imported mandarins that travel long distances to reach our markets will be replaced by the locally grown “Mediana” variety cultivated in our sunny climate. The “MEDIANA” mandarin variety is well adapted to the soil and climatic conditions of our republic, highly productive, and environmentally friendly. The variety was developed over 10 years using the synthetic selection method, with F2 “Yubileniy” lemon seedlings used as rootstock. The planting density is 2,000 seedlings per hectare. The seedlings must be healthy and of high quality. To achieve high yields, timely irrigation, fertilization, as well as formative and sanitary pruning are essential. The fruits are slightly square-shaped, very sweet in taste, and highly marketable. The widespread introduction of this variety will make it possible to produce competitive, locally grown products that substitute imports.
