SHAPING JUNIPER TREES

view 7

Proper shaping of juniper trees ensures healthy growth, an attractive ornamental appearance, and long lifespan. The most suitable time for shaping is early spring (before sap flow begins) or late summer. Pruning during autumn and winter is not recommended.
Pruning rules: dry, diseased, and broken branches should be removed; shoots growing inward should be thinned out. No more than 25–30% of the green mass should be cut in one season.
Tools: use only sharp and disinfected garden shears or a saw. After pruning, the juniper should be watered sufficiently and, if necessary, fertilized with biological fertilizers.
Excessive pruning weakens the juniper and makes it more susceptible to diseases.
